Pediatrics is the medical care of infants, children and adolescents. Pediatricians are specially trained to treat diseases, behavioral problems and mental health issues as they relate to children. Pediatric care includes well check-ups, vaccinations and much more.

Our commitment to caring for children in Kansas and northern Oklahoma include the opening of the $50 million Wesley Children's Hospital, a facility dedicated solely to pediatrics.

Our pediatric doctors and staff are specially trained to meet the emotional and physical needs of young patients and their families. Child life specialists focus on helping children of all ages feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.

Wesley's pediatricians and medical staff know you want to be involved in your child's healthcare. Parents are encouraged to ask our staff any questions they may have concerning their child's hospitalization. We provide family life educational programs to help parents understand and provide for their child's healthcare needs.

Wesley Childrens Hospital

Wesley Children's Hospital is designed with state-of-the-art technology and services specifically for children and their families. Wesley Children's Hospital offers a 31-bed pediatric unit staffed by board-certified pediatric hospitalists and a 15-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Pediatric Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatric Dialysis and Pediatric Pharmacy departments all work together to provide evidence-based care for children and their families.

We also offer more than 50 pediatric specialists and subspecialists in a variety of medical specialties and subspecialties.

General pediatrics

Our pediatric facilities offer a family-centered healing environment to ensure pediatric patients and their families feel comfortable. We provide several pediatric care locations, including:

  • Pediatric Center of Kansas (a collaboration with the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita
  • KU Wichita Pediatrics
  • Independent physicians with outpatient clinics staffed by pediatric subspecialists

No matter what location you visit, care is provided by pediatricians, many of whom have subspecialties in neonatology, surgery, intensive care, infectious diseases, allergy/immunology, radiology, endocrinology, neurology, cardiology, pulmonary care, urology, orthopedics, anesthesia and child development.

Other experienced team members include child development therapists, pediatric respiratory therapists, pediatric nurses, child life specialists, dietitians, care coordinators, pharmacists and chaplains.

Pediatric emergency care

Wesley offers a pediatric emergency room (ER) separate from our main ER. As a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, we are prepared to handle any pediatric emergency at any time.

Our pediatric ER is open from noon to midnight daily. However, if you have a pediatric emergency outside of these hours, your child can be treated 24/7 in our other Wesley emergency rooms.

Pediatric Surgery Clinic

Wesley’s pediatric outpatient surgery clinic provides a broad range of surgical procedures—from routine surgeries to the most complex surgeries.

A physician's referral is needed to make an appointment at the surgery clinic. Children may be referred to determine whether or not they need surgery, to examine them in preparation for surgery or to receive follow-up care after they have had surgery.

Pediatric rehabilitation

Wesley offers comprehensive pediatric physical therapy and rehabilitation services for kids of all ages. Our rehabilitation team includes speech therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists.
